Bahmani–Vijayanagar War (1435) was fought between Alau'd-din Ahmad Shah and Deva Raya II.
War[edit]
During the early years of Deva Raya II’s reign, tensions resurfaced between Vijayanagar and the Bahmani Sultanate. Around 1435 CE, shortly after ascending the throne, Ala-ud-din Bahmani II initiated hostilities, alleging that Deva Raya II had failed to deliver the agreed tribute.[1]
In response, the Sultan dispatched a formidable force under his brother Prince Mahmud Khan, supported by commanders Khanja Jahan and Imad-ul-Mulk Churi. The invading troops ravaged parts of the Vijayanagara territory, causing extensive destruction. Sources such as Firishta claim that Deva Raya, unable to withstand the assault, was compelled to negotiate peace. The terms reportedly included the delivery of twenty elephants, a large monetary payment, two hundred trained female performers, and additional gifts presented to Prince Mahmud Khan.[2][3]
