Annavru is a 2003 Indian Kannada crime drama film directed by Om Prakash Rao for producer M.C. Dyanand, starring Ambareesh, Darshan, Kanika, Suhasini and Sumitra.[1][2] The film is the remake of acclaimed director Mani Ratnam' s Mammootty and Rajinikanth-starrer Tamil blockbuster Thalapathi.[3]

Plot[edit]

Annavru has the theme which is loosely based on the friendship between Karna and Duryodhana of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

Summary[edit]

Darshan, the abandoned child of fourteen-year-old unwed mother Sumitra, is brought up by a generous lady living in the slums. He grows up to become a fearless kind-hearted slum king who fights the injustice that takes place daily. These qualities lead him to cross swords with the local don Ambareesh. One day Ambareesh's friend dies after fatally beaten up by Darshan. This led to a friction between Ambareesh and Darshan. However, when Ambareesh discovers the truth, he helps Darshan's release from jail. Their rule in town gets questioned by a newly appointed collector. Will Ambareesh and Darshan bow in front of the collector takes the film a different turn.

Cast[edit]

Snippets[edit]

  • Maniratnam wanted Karna' s death and Duryodhana seeking revenge as the climax, but this will kill Rajinikanth's character before the climax. So he altered the script as Duryodhana (Mammootty) getting killed and Karna (Rajinikanth) taking revenge.
  • In Kannada version Annavru, the climax shows Karna (Darshan) getting killed and Duryodhana (Ambareesh) taking revenge on the killers.

Soundtrack[edit]

Soundtrack was composed by Rajesh Ramnath. Except "Kannadakkage" and "Dindima Dholu" all other tunes were reused from original Tamil film Thalapathi composed by Ilayaraja.
