Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) is an Apex-Export Trade Promotion Active government body set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India under the Agriculture and Processed Food products Export Development Authority. The Act was passed by Parliament in December 1985. It was formed and came into effect from 13 February 1986 by the notification issued in the Gazette of India. APEDA is the premier body of export promotion of fresh vegetables and fruits.It provides the crucial interface between farmers,storehouses,packers,exporters, surface transport, ports,Railways, Airways ,all others engaged in export trade and finally to the international market. Directly and indirectly it serves the farmers, exporters from different states and many other services in the country.It works like a bridge in between agricultural and processed food producers to reach to the exporters in international markets.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF APEDA

APEDA has rigorously working for the past 34 years, providing abundant services from farmers to countries abroad. For this- in all possible domains, APEDA plays numerous functions. In accordance with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act 1985, (2 of 1986) the following functions have been assigned to the Authority.

1. Development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export by way of providing financial assistance or otherwise for undertaking surveys and feasibility studies, participation in enquiry capital through joint ventures and other reliefs and subsidy schemes;

2. Registration of persons as exporters of the scheduled products on payment of such fees as may be prescribed;

More than 35,000 exporters have already registered with APEDA.

3. Fixing of standards and specifications for the scheduled products for the purpose of exports;

4. Carrying out inspection of meat and meat products in slaughterhouses, processing plants, storage premises, conveyances or other places where such products are kept or handled for the purpose of ensuring the quality of such products;

5. Improving of packaging of the Scheduled products;

6. Improving of marketing of the Scheduled products outside India;

7. Promotion of export oriented production and development of the Scheduled products;

8. Collection of statistics from the owners of factories or establishments engaged in the production, processing, packaging, marketing or export of the scheduled products or from such other persons as may be prescribed on any matter relating to the scheduled products and publication of the statistics so collected or of any portions thereof or extracts therefrom;

9. Training in various aspects of the industries connected with the scheduled products;

10. India produced around 2.75 million MT(2019-20) of certified organic products namely Oil seed, sugar cane, cereals, millets,cotton,pulses, aromatic & medicinal plants,tea,coffee,fruits,spices,dry fruits,vegetables,processed foods etc.

Agri Exchange

Agri Exchange is a web enabled Agri products related Market Intelligence Trade portal endeavored by APEDA, Govt. of India launched in 2007-08. It is a platform for Indian exporters and entrepreneurs to enter in global markets as well as bringing the Indian Exporters & the global buyers to share their requirements. The Agri Exchange Portal provides a user friendly interface and facility for submission of trade leads free of cost. The portal contains information of more than 700 Agri& Processed Food falls under the purview of APEDA and has extensive databases related to the International Trade, India’s Export/ Import, Policy Measures, Import Tariff, Country Profile and Service providers etc. Source: http://agriexchange.apeda.gov.in/About_Agri_Exchange.aspx

Agriexchange Newsletter is published & circulated daily by APEDA to keep updating our stakeholder’s viz. exporters/ importers, government agencies, international agencies, policy makers, and other stakeholders about latest trade & economic news, trade notifications, trade statistics and prices. This will also help our stakeholders to be aware about APEDA new initiatives. [1]


OTHERINITIATIVES

As a biggest International export organisation for fresh fruits and vegetables APEDA works from farmers to international market across the globe. APEDA takes many initiatives to extend all possible facilities in the export concern.

1. APEDA extends assistance for organizing seminars and group activities

2. It organises study tours within the country and for bringing out information literature.

3. Assistance for installing Quality management ,quality assurance and quality control systems such as ISO series, HACCP,BRC, GAP etc.

4. Activities conducted related to standardisation and quality control (Sub-Component 3)

5. Upgradation of APEDA recognized labs for export testing.

6. Support for adoption of global standards for traceability.

7. Registration for GLN for farmers clusters /(Internal Control System)

8. Continuous sponsorship of seminars

9. Implementation of the Agri Export Policy in Andaman and Nicobar islands. APEDA has facilitated in developing the draft state Agri Export action plan,which is now being finalized.

10. APEDA has developed and maintained the trade portal website to keep members, exporters and importers, stakeholders updated about export policies.

11. To provide assistance news magazines are published about trade and commerce with worldwide readership among exporters, policy makers and stakeholders. Weekly and monthly bulletins are also published. It publishes newsletter by the name of agriExchange [2] .
