Aakko (Acronym for Aarva Kolaru; transl. Over-enthusiastic) is a unreleased Indian Tamil-language comedy film directed by Shyam Kumar and produced by Deepan Boopathy and Ratesh Velu. The film features newcomers Geethan Britto and Tulika Gupta in the leading roles with Arjunan and Swaminathan in pivotal roles, while Anirudh Ravichander composes the film's music and plays a guest appearance.

Cast[edit]

Production[edit]

Shyam Kumar had approached music composer Anirudh Ravichander hoping to cast him in the lead role for the film in late 2013. After listening to the script and liking the concept, Anirudh turned down the offer on making his acting debut, but instead he agreed to compose the film's music. The director then cast newcomer Geethan Britto and Tulika Gupta along with Arjunan and Swaminathan to play significant roles in the film.[1] The film's title Aakko was announced during the time of production, noting that the title Aakko is slang for the term "Aarva Kolaaru", which translates into "enthusiastic youngster". Anirudh revealed that he accepted to compose the music to test his star status in the market, in a film where all the other actors are newcomers, Anirudh as the only known star, revealed that he considered it as an "acid test" for himself.[1]

The film's first look was released to the media on the New Year's Day (1 January 2014) with a series of posters featuring Anirudh released.[2][3] After progressing slowly throughout 2014, a promotional song "Enakenna Yaarum Illaye" was released in February 2015, with the success of the song prompting the producers to plan a promotional video featuring Anirudh and Amy Jackson during July 2015.[4] The film faced production troubles during late 2015, with the project along with producer Deepan Boopathy's other film Mellisai, was delayed for several years.[5] In October 2016, Satheesh Kumar of JSK Film Corporation acquired the rights of both the film and Mellisai, which later renamed as Puriyatha Pudhir was released in September 2017, whereas Aakko remained unreleased.[6]

Music[edit]

The film's music and background score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. On 14 February 2015, a single from the film titled "Enakenna Yaarum Illaye" was released online to coincide with Valentine's Day.[7] The song, written by Vignesh Shivan and sung by Anirudh, received viral response from audience and became an instant hit.[8] Despite Anirudh announced that the film's album will be unveiled soon, it remained unreleased.[5] The audio rights of the film was acquired by Sony Music.
