Dar is a small village located in the Akhnoor tehsil of the Jammu district in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is situated in a region with significant historical and strategic importance near the Chenab River.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
Historically, the village is associated with the House of Dar, a prominent Kashmiri Pandit family under Maharaja Virendra Mohan Dar. The lineage, which later became influential in parts of Bengal and Bangladesh, traces its origins to the 16th century. The estate in Dar served as a base for the family before their migration eastward. [2]

According to the 2011 Census of India, the village had a total population of 122, consisting of 66 males and 56 females.[3][4]

- Literacy rate: The village recorded a literacy rate of 86.79%, significantly higher than the Jammu and Kashmir state average at the time.
- Child population: Children aged 0–6 years accounted for 13.11% of the total population.

The village is administered under the provisions of the Indian Panchayati Raj Act, with a Sarpanch serving as the elected representative of the village.[citation needed]
