He served in the Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army and later founded Sakkubai Security Service and the Shine Indian Soldiers Social Welfare Foundation. The foundation has undertaken welfare activities for ex-servicemen and civilians, and is noted for commissioning a panchaloha bust of General Bipin Rawat, which was unveiled at the United Service Institution of India in New Delhi in 2022.[1][2]
Military career[edit | edit source]
Babu joined the Indian Army on 2 March 2001 and served until 31 May 2018 with the 70 Medium Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery, retiring at the rank of Naik (Gunner).
Business career[edit | edit source]
After retirement, Babu founded Sakkubai Security Service in 2019 in Cuddalore. The firm provides security and manpower services to educational institutions, hospitals, government examinations and public events.[3]
Shine Indian Soldiers Social Welfare Foundation[edit | edit source]
In 2019, Babu founded the Shine Indian Soldiers Social Welfare Foundation in Cuddalore as a non-profit organisation focused on the welfare of ex-servicemen, serving personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, paramilitary forces and civilians. Its activities have included awareness programmes on self-employment, education, disaster relief, environmental conservation and women's empowerment.[4]
Bust of General Bipin Rawat[edit | edit source]
In 2022, the foundation commissioned a panchaloha (five-metal alloy) bust of General Bipin Rawat, India's first Chief of Defence Staff, who died in a helicopter crash on 8 December 2021. The bust, approximately 4–5 feet tall and weighing about 145–150 kg, was crafted by traditional sculptors (sthapathis) in the Kumbakonam area of Tamil Nadu.[5][6]
The bust was unveiled on 10 December 2022 at the United Service Institution of India (USI) in New Delhi by the Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt, in the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari, and Tarini Rawat, daughter of General Bipin Rawat.[7][8]
Operation Sindoor memorial[edit | edit source]
In 2026, the foundation announced a project to create a panchaloha commemorative pillar dedicated to the soldiers who participated in Operation Sindoor. The planned structure is approximately 8 feet in height, hollow, and expected to weigh about 500 kg, with an estimated cost of ₹10–15 lakh. It is intended for installation at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff building under construction in New Delhi. The design includes a lotus-shaped base and a stylised kungumam chimizh (vermillion holder) to symbolise the operation.[9]
