Requested moves is the place to ask for a page to be moved (renamed) when the move needs discussion — for example, when the new title could be controversial, or when the page cannot be moved directly.

How to request a move

  1. Open the talk page of the page you want to have moved.
  2. Add the following line (replace the title and the reason with your own):
    {{subst:Requested move|Proposed new title|reason=Why the move is needed}}
  3. Save the page. A dated "Requested move" notice will appear on the talk page, and your request will be listed automatically with the current requests.
  4. Discuss the proposal on the talk page until consensus is reached.

Current requests

Pages with an open move request are listed automatically in Category:Requested moves.

Closing requests

  1. Requests are usually left open for at least seven days so editors have time to comment.
  2. An uninvolved editor or administrator reviews the discussion. If there is consensus to move, an administrator performs the move (only administrators can move a page over an existing redirect or a protected title).
  3. After closing, remove the "Requested move" notice from the talk page and leave a short note explaining the outcome.
