Bhumidhar Barman (12 October 1931 – 18 April 2021) was an Indian Politician belonging to the Indian National Congress. He was the Chief Minister of Assam from 22 April 1996 to 14 May 1996.[2] He was a member of the Assam Legislative Assembly being elected 7 times. He was first elected in 1967.[3][4][5] In 2015, he was made a Cabinet Minister of Assam.

Personal Background

Bhumidhar Barman was born in 1931 and passed his matriculation from Tihu High School in 1951.[6] He was among the last batch of students to have passed out from Calcutta University.[6]

Political Career

Barman was the oldest member in the council of ministers of Assam in 2010.[6] He was made Chief Minister for sometime after Hiteshwar Saikia's death and acting Chief Minister when Tarun Gogoi was hospitalised in Mumbai for heart surgery.[6]
