Chandramukhi 2 is an upcoming Tamil-language comedy horror film written and directed by P. Vasu, produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner Lyca Productions. Chandramukhi 2 is a standalone sequel to Chandramukhi which starred Rajinikanth and Jyothika in lead roles. The film stars Raghava Lawrence and Kangana Ranaut in the lead roles, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Vadivelu and Lakshmi Menon in supporting roles.[1]

Development

In January 2020, Vasu had stated that he had completed the script for the sequel of Chandramukhi and a producer has come forward to produce the film.[2] It was reported that Raghava Lawrence would play main role in the movie, which was confirmed in April by himself via Twitter, where also stated the film is produced by Sun Pictures.[3] In May, Jyothika was reported to play a role in the movie, but was later on turned false.[4][5] In June 2022, Raghava announced that Lyca Productions is producing the film, Vadivelu joined the casting and editing, cinematography and art works would be handled by Anthony, R. D. Rajasekhar and Thota Tharani.[6] Kangana Ranaut was finalized as the lead female role after Trisha opted out.[7]

Filming

Principal photography commenced in July 2022 in Mysore, and wrapped up the first schedule in August.[8][9] In March 2023, Kangana joined the team to shoot a climax song, which she was seen rehearsing in January, and wrapped up her portions the same month.[10][11] Raadhika had wrapped her portions in May.[12] In June, the team had announced that the shooting wrapped up, after being in production for 3 years.[13]

Post-production

In June, the team announced that the film is releasing on Ganesh Chaturthi.[14] Raghava started dubbing his portions in July.[15]

Music

The film's music and background scores are composed by M. M. Keeravani, and marks his first Tamil film after 22 years; his last Tamil film was Student Number 1. Chandramukhi 2 also marks his first collaboration with Vasu and Raghava.[16]

Release

Theatrical

Chandramukhi 2 is scheduled to release on 19 September 2023, coinciding Ganesh Chaturthi, clashing with Mark Antony.[17]

The streaming rights was sold by Netflix.
