Diesel Loco Shed, Malda Town


Diesel Loco Shed, Malda Town is an engine shed located in Malda, West Bengal in India. Diesel Loco Shed, Malda Town provides regular maintenance and repair of Diesel locomotives in Indian Railways. It is now rated as one of the premier loco sheds in Indian Railways. It is one of the three Diesel Loco Sheds in the Northeast Frontier Railway zone followed by New Guwahati and Siliguri. It comes under the Katihar railway division.

Operations

It was originally a steam loco shed but with the introduction of the Diesel traction the shed was also converted into a diesel Loco Shed and became the first Broad Gauge diesel Loco Shed in Northeast Frontier Railway. Being one of the three diesel sheds, various major and minor maintenance are carried out here. Like all the other locomotives sheds, MLDT does regular maintenance of Diesel Locomotives including washing and painting of the locomotives.

History

It was established in 1984 with a total holding of 20 locomotives. It has a sanctioned capacity of 60 locomotives. It also started receiving WAG-9 (electric traction) locomotives. It was ISO certified in the year 2007 with ISO (9001:2000).

Livery and Markings

Diesel Loco Shed, MLDT has its own beautiful colour scheme of locomotives. MLDT based locomotives have a livery with top and bottom painted with blue colour and middle painted with cream colour having a red colour strip with the locos' road numbers. MLDT loco shed has its own logo and stencils. It is written in bold letters on loco's body as well as in front and back.
