Lakhimpur Kheri violence occurred on October 3, 2021, after four farmers were killed and several injured after they were run over by an SUV from the convoy of the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra during a black flag protest at Tikunia in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri.[1] Following the incident, some protesting farmers set the SUV and one other vehicle on fire and lynched 4 people to death including three BJP members and a driver.[2]
Ashish Mishra, the son of the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra was alleged to be the driver behind the ramming attack but he denied the allegations, saying that he was not present on the spot and he was watching a wrestling event some 4.5 kms away in the area and shared some photos and videos of the said event.[3][4] In an interview with India TV on October 5, Ashish accepted that the vehicle seen in the viral video of the incident was his, but added that he was not at the place where the violence took place. Mishra appeared for questioning before a special investigation team on October 9 and was arrested and taken to custody the late evening.[5]
Raman Kashyap, a 28 year old journalist working with the private TV news channel was among those killed.[6]
