Zee Bangla is an Indian general entertainment pay television channel broadcasting in Bengali language. It is owned by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, as a part of the Essel Group.[1][2][3] It broadcasts Bengali programming, such as family dramas, comedies, reality shows, crime shows and telefilms. It was the first Bangla television channel in India which launched on 15 September 1999.[4]
History
It was launched on 15 September 1999 as Alpha TV Bangla, along with Alpha TV Marathi, Alpha TV Telugu and Alpha TV Punjabi.[5] It was the first Bengali-language television channel in India.[6]
It was renamed to Zee Bangla on 27 March 2005.[7] On 23 September 2012, Zee Bangla released its sister channel Zee Bangla Cinema as West Bengal's first Bengali movie channel.[8][9]
On 15 October 2017, all the Zee channels had changed their logos where the logo has started showing on the left side. In 2019, Samrat Ghosh became the head of the channel.[10] The channel brand new identity was revealed during Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on 7 October 2018.[11][12][13] It is one of the largest Bengali channels by viewership.[14]
