The Government Engineering College Thrissur (GEC T) is an engineering college situated in Thrissur city of Kerala, India. It is the second oldest govt. engineering college established in Kerala and the first government engineering college to be established after the formation of Kerala state. The college was affiliated to the University of Calicut and now associated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University(KTU).
The college was initially located at the Maharaja's Technological Institute Chembukkavu campus in 1957. The foundation stone of the college was laid by the late Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, on 26 April 1958. The college shifted to its present campus in October 1960. The college was formally inaugurated by late Pattom A. Thanu Pillai, Chief Minister of Kerala on 2 February 1962. The campus is spread over an area of 75 acres (0.30 km2) and is located at Ramavarmapuram which is 5 km from the heart of Thrissur city and 6 km from Thrissur Railway station.
Prof.S. Rajaraman, a civil engineer of international repute and author of many engineering books was the first Principal. He along with Prof. M.P. Mathew and Prof. V.S. Nair (the then Head of the Departments of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering respectively) formed the triumvirate that established the growth of the college.[citation needed]
Besides the regular B-Tech courses, college also offers a postgraduate Course in Computer Applications (MCA), and postgraduate programmes in other subjects. Courses offered by college have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, AICTE, and Council of Architecture (B.Arch).

Thrissur Motor Show
The Thrissur Motor Show is an annual motor show held in Thrissur town, Kerala. The expo is held at Thekkinkadu Maidan and is organized by Mechanical Engineering Department of Government Engineering College, Thrissur.
The show exhibits supercars, superbikes, vintage and modified vehicles. It was declared the best student organised expo by the Hindu in 2008. Many racing celebrities like Narain Karthikeyan, Mira Erda etc. have grazed the stage of Thrissur Motor Show.
TEDxGECT
A TEDx event was organised by students of GEC, Thrissur in April 2018
.[3] The theme of the event was "Reality Check". This was the first TEDx event in Central Kerala.
