Tiger (franchise)


Tiger is an Indian Hindi-language media franchise consisting of action spy films. The original work is 2012 film, named Ek Tha Tiger, directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Yash Raj Films.[1] It centers on a fictional RAW spy named "Avinash Singh Rathore" aka "Tiger" played by Salman Khan who falls in love with a Pakistani spy of ISI named "Zoya Humaini" played by Katrina Kaif.↵It has a sequel named Tiger Zinda Hai, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, that released on 22 December 2017.[2] The sequel is based on the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL.[3] The first film also spawned a series of graphic novels, published by Yomics World.

Ek Tha Tiger (2012)Edit

A RAW agent, Tiger (Salman Khan), is sent to Dublin to observe an Indian scientist who is suspected of sharing nuclear secrets with the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He meets and falls for his caretaker Zoya (Katrina Kaif), a girl with a dark secret.

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)Edit

RAW Agent Tiger joins forces with Zoya in order to rescue a group of nurses who are held hostage by a terrorist organisation.[2] This sequel is based on the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL.[3]

Ek Tha Tiger (2012)Edit

The first installment of the series, based on a true incidents. A RAW agent, Tiger, is sent to Dublin to observe an Indian scientist who is suspected of sharing nuclear secrets with the ISI. He meets and falls for his caretaker Zoya, a girl with a dark secret. Ek Tha Tiger was released on 15 August 2012 (worldwide) and gained positive reviews. .It earned ₹325 crore worldwide[4] against a budget of ₹75 crore.[5] becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films by international gross.[6][7]

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)Edit

After the success of Ek Tha Tiger Salman and Katrina Re-unite once again for sequel. The film was titled as Tiger Zinda Hai and also second installment in this series. The film is based on true incidents that happened in 2014 the abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL.[3] The film was released on 22 December 2017 worldwide. The film received a U/A certificate from Central Board of Film Certification.[8] Tiger Zinda Hai opened to mostly positive reviews.[9] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 4.5 stars, and said "Salman is the lifeline, the real treasure of Tiger Zinda Hai. He sinks his teeth into the character and, in several sequences, peels off the mask of super-stardom and brings the actor to the fore. Katrina is in solid form, in action sequences specifically commands attention."[10] Tiger Zinda Hai made a new non-holiday record in India as it collected 34.1 crore nett on its first day.[11] It went on to collect ₹35.30 crore nett gross on second day. The film recorded the second highest day of all time. It netted Rs 154 crore in its first four days in India.[12][13] The film grossed 565 crore worldwide[14] becoming the eighth highest-grossing Indian film. At the 63rd Filmfare Awards, it won for Best Action.[15]

Tiger 3 (2023)Edit

The third installment of the franchise, titled Tiger 3 will mark the return of both Khan and Kaif and is directed by Maneesh Sharma.[17] Emraan Hashmi and Naufal Azmir Khan will be playing the antagonist in the film. Aditya Chopra and Shridhar Raghavan are said to write the film.[18]

Graphic novelsEdit

  • A graphic novel titled Ek Tha Tiger: Mahasagar Ki Suraksha (English: Ek Tha Tiger: Saving The High Seas) was published in 2012 by Yomics. Post release, the comic failed to generate a positive word-of-mouth. Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama commended the comics' design but said that the main story failed to meet his expectations of a deeper plot, exciting narrative and a tighter script.[24]
  • Another graphic novel named Ek Tha Tiger: Caught In The Web has been published in 2012 by Yomics, which also features some Hum Tum characters.[25]
