Sameer Gehlaut (born 3 March 1974) is an Indian entrepreneur and executive. He is founder of the Indiabulls Group, an Indian financial services and property conglomerate.[1][2][3][4]
Early life and education[edit]
Born in Rohtak, Haryana, Gehlaut graduated with a B.Tech in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1995.[1]
Career[edit]
In 1999, Gehlaut founded the Indiabulls Group from an office with two co-founders.[5] It was one of India’s first online brokerages.[6]
In 2004, Gehlaut led the business through its IPO.[7][5] In the same year, the company expanded into consumer lending, providing home, business, and vehicle loans, meaning it was one of the first companies in India to allow customers to apply for mortgages and other consumer loans online.[8][6]
In 2005, Gehlaut led Indiabulls’ expansion into real estate, starting with the purchase of land in Mumbai.[6] In 2019, the real estate arm completed the construction of the Indiabulls Blu Estate & Club residential towers in Worli, South Mumbai.[9][10]
In 2012, Gehlaut established Clivedale, a UK real estate developer based in Mayfair, London. [11] As of 2021, it was developing The Residences at the Mandarin Oriental in Hanover Square.[12]
In 2015, Gehlaut invested into OakNorth Bank, the UK business lender. He was one of OakNorth’s earliest investors, taking a 40% stake in the company.[13]
In 2017, Gehlaut launched Dhani, a healthcare and financial services app, under the auspices of Indiabulls Ventures, later renamed Dhani Services.[5][14]
Personal life and philanthropy[edit]
Gehlaut is married to Divya S. Gehlaut and they have two children.[1]
In 2010, Gehlaut established the Indiabulls Foundation. It has provided support to over 7.5 million people.[8]
In 2021, the Indiabulls Foundation distributed healthcare kits during the COVID-19 pandemic.[8]
