Tarinidevi, also known as Tarini Mahadevi was a second wife of Pulakeshin II and mother of Chandraditya. Her father, King Kulabhadra, married her to Pulakeshi II after the defeating of Harshavardhana. She was a delight and honourable wife of Pulakeshin II and he fell in love with her, before her marriage. The marriage took place in a happy manner and celebrated with pomp and show. Soon, after, Tarinidevi and Pulakeshin II had a son named Chandraditya. Pulakeshin also married a daughter of Durvinita, who was his first wife.
This story goes like this when King Kulabhadra marries her to great Chalukya King called Pulakeshin II and lived with him happily. Chandraditya was the third son of Pulakeshin II but is not mentioned in sources. Queen Tarini Mahadevi's story is written on the basic line like Tirumala Devi, wife of King Krishnadevaraya. She was spelled Tarinidevi and Tarini Mahadevi respectively. Queen Vijaya-Bhattarika (alias Vijaya-Mahadevi) was her successor. In the stone inscriptions of her stepson, Vikramaditya I, she is mentioned as the ancestor of Chinnadevi and Tirumaladevi.

Titles[edit]
Queen Tarini of Chalukya was given the title Mahishi, Bhattarika and Mahadevi. These titles were also adopted by her daughter in law, Vijaya-Bhattarika, these titles were given to these queens as these titles belong to the chief queens. Some titles were given to her by her husband. As he, adopted the title named Bhattaraka, his wife adopted the title Bhattarika. That's why Tarinidevi is known as Tarini-Mahadevi or Tarini-Bhattarika.
Succession[edit]
She was succeeded by her daughter in law and after her death, Queen Vijaya-Mahadevi ruled the Chalukya dynasty.
Dowager empress[edit]
She was crowned as the second principal consort of Pulakeshin II during his reign but the date is not mentioned. Vijaya-Bhattarika, then was later crowned by mother in law, Tarinidevi.
Marriage[edit]
Tarinidevi of the Chera dynasty was married to the Chalukya King named Pulakeshin II. Some sources also say Shilabhattarika was their daughter after the birth of Chandraditya. The marital life during her reign was simple and she had no complaints about her husband. She lived a simple and happy life with him. She was one of the great queens of the Chalukya dynasty and the beautiful consorts of Pulakeshi II. His third wife was Sujatadevi, but Pulakeshi eloped and married her. Adityavarman was their son. Princess Sujatadevi (alias Sujata-Mahadevi) was the princess of the Pandya dynasty.
