Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson was a professional boxing match between YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul and former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson. The bout took place on November 15, 2024, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The main card was streamed globally on Netflix;[3] the preliminary card was streamed on YouTube.[4] Jake Paul was declared the winner by unanimous decision.[5] The 31-year age difference between Tyson and Paul is the largest age difference in professional boxing history.[6]

Originally, the bout was scheduled to take place on July 20, 2024, but was postponed due to Tyson suffering an ulcer flare-up aboard a plane.[7]

The event has drawn criticism towards Netflix for widespread technical difficulties and the streamer's capability to broadcast live events.[8]

Background[edit]

On November 3, 2023, it was reported that Netflix was considering streaming a boxing match involving Jake Paul.[9]

On March 7, 2024, Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions announced that they were partnering to host an event headlined by Paul facing former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson on July 20 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.[3] The event will be streamed globally exclusively on Netflix.[10]

On the April 2, Tyson confirmed at that time the fight was to be classified as an exhibition bout and was not set to be recorded on their professional records.[11] In response to rumors of 18-ounce (510 g) gloves and headgear, Tyson said in an interview, "not true at all", and clarified: "This is called an exhibition, but if you look up exhibition, you will not see any of the laws that we're fighting under. This is a fight."[12] On April 10, Paul confirmed that they he would be submitting a request to the Texas Combative Sports Program for the bout to be sanctioned as a professional bout.[13]

On April 16, Netflix confirmed that the long awaited rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles would be the co-feature bout.[14]

On April 29, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations confirmed it approved the fighters' request and that the bout would be a sanctioned, professional fight.[15] The bout consisted of eight two-minute rounds with 14-ounce (400 g) gloves.[16]

The September 16, 2024, the undercard was announced to be a bout between WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos.[17]

On November 7, 2024, Netflix premiered the first two episodes of Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson, with the third and final episode following on November 12. The show was narrated by Ice-T.[18]

Netflix experienced technical difficulties in streaming the event live, leading to complaints from viewers about the streamer's capability to broadcast live events.[19][20][21][22] Presenters included Roy Jones Jr, Cedric the Entertainer, Rosie Perez, Kate Abdo and Ariel Helwani.
