Jagpreet Singh is an Indian educationist and the current headmaster of The Doon School, the all-boys boarding school in Dehradun, India.[1][2] He succeeded Matthew Raggett in 2020, becoming the eleventh headmaster of the school. He is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, UK and treasurer of the Indian Public Schools' Conference.[3][4]

Education[edit]

Singh was educated at St. Anselm's Senior Secondary School, Ajmer. He received the degrees of Bachelor of Education from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University as well as a Master of Arts in history, Master of Philosophy and Doctorate of Philosophy in education from the University of Rajasthan.[1]

Career[edit]

Singh joined Mayo College in Ajmer in 1989, serving as a housemaster and later as the school's vice principal. He left Mayo in April 2011 to become headmaster of the Punjab Public School (PPS) in Nabha, Punjab.[5][6] At PPS, Singh pursued a holistic education strategy, mandating artistic and athletic activities in addition to academic work.[7][8][9] During this time, he was also elected Chairman of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC), a sports league of independent schools partially modelled on the Ivy League in the United States. In 2013, he was one of four Indian educators to win the Derozio Award, conferred by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for major contributions to education.[10] In 2019, Singh was invited to an education summit organised by the Government of Punjab in Chandigarh, to discuss education goals for the city.[11][12] In April 2020, Singh was appointed the eleventh headmaster of The Doon School in Dehradun, after Matthew Raggett resigned in January 2020. In October 2020, Singh appeared on NDTV's Swasthyamantra project, which explored the subject of sex education in India.[13]
