Yerraguntla is town and Nagar Panchayat in the Yerraguntla mandal of the YSR district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is an industrial area in the Kadapa revenue division.[2]
History
YSR district was one of the 13 new districts formed in 2022 , with its headquarters at Kadapa. The reorganisation of the districts increased the number of districts in Andhra Pradesh to 26. It has 3 revenue divisions - Jammalamadugu revenue division, Kadapa revenue division and Badvel revenue division.[3]
Kadapa district was renamed YSR district in 2010 after Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (8 July 1949 – 2 September 2009), who was chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for two terms. In a political career spanning 30 years, he never lost an election. He died in a helicopter accident.[4][5][6][7]

Yerraguntla is located at 14°38′00″N 78°32′00″E / 14.6333°N 78.5333°E.[8] It has an average elevation of 152 meters (501 feet).
Governance
Civic administration Yerraguntla Nagar Panchayat is the civic administrative body of the town which was constituted in the year 2012.[9]
Demographics
As of 2011[update] Census of India, the town had a population of 32,574. The total population constitute, 16,558 males, 16,016 females and 3,754 children, in the age group of 0–6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 70.56% with 20,334 literates, lower than the national average of 73.00%.[10]
Economy
The Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station is one of the major power stations in the state. [11][12]
Transport
Yerraguntla Junction is a junction for Nandyal–Yerraguntla section and Guntakal–Chennai Egmore section. It falls under the jurisdiction of Guntakal railway division and is one of the 'D'-category station in the division.[13]
Education
The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[14][15]
