| In the November [[2015 Bihar legislative assembly election|2015]] and November 2010 and October 2005 state assembly elections, Subhas Singh of [[Bharatiya Janata Party|BJP]] won the Gopalganj assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Reyazul Haque of [[Rashtriya Janata Dal|RJD]]. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Reyazul Haque representing [[Bahujan Samaj Party|BSP]] defeated Subhas Singh representing [[Lok Janshakti Party|LJP]] in [[Bihar Assembly Election, Feb 2005|February 2005]]. Anirudh Prasad (Sadhu Yadav) of RJD defeated Subhas Singh representing BPSP in 2000. Ramawtar of [[Janata Dal|JD]] defeated Putul Debi of [[Indian National Congress|Congress]] in 1995. of JD defeated Ambika Prasad Yadawa, Independent, in 1990.
