| In 2002, she started her career by appearing on India’s largest broadcasting television network [[Doordarshan]] as a news anchor, where she hosted for the regional and national channels.<ref name ="StarSunFolded"/> She was also assigned the tasks of shortlisting, formatting, and writing stories on current affairs at [[Doordarshan]].<ref name ="StarSunFolded"/> In 2004, she joined [[Hindustan Times]] as Staff Writer and wrote stories on civic and social issues. In May 2005, she entered India’s largest English-language news television channel- [[CNN-News18]] as an Anchor and Senior Editor. In 2007, she was awarded the Best News Reader Award. | After Upadhyay announced her retirement from WION and the creation of a new talk show in [[CNN-News18]], [[WION]] filed a lawsuit against Upadhyay, saying that " confidential and proprietary Zee information" are taken by Upadhyay, and demanded that Upadhyay should continue to work for WION until December 2022 and pay for damages worth Rs 2 crore.
