==Electoral History==
Kanniyakumari constituency has traditionally been more favorable to the national parties. Though DMK won in 2008, the Indian National Congress was an ally and a major contributor to the victory of [[J. Helen Davidson]]. This is evident from the results of 2014 elections when Indian National Congress managed second place amidst strong anti-incumbency all over the nation. In that election, [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] won with an outstanding majority. During 2019 polls, [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] allied with AIADMK. The anti-incumbent trend on both state and the central government was a major factor in the defeat of Pon Radhakrishnan. The BJP and RSS, with the help of fringe Hindu fundamentalist groups such as Hindu Munnani, Shiv Sena, Hindu Makkal Katchi, and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, have polarised the district's population. The BJP had taken on a number of issues in the district in order to foster Hindu sentiment among the locals. One of its main campaigns, known as "July Porattam," was to demand that all poor Hindu students be given scholarships. Every year in July, massive rallies will be held to lobby for this demand with posters often depicting communal statements against religious minorities. The BJP has even promised to meet this demand if elected.
