| Haralu was born in [[Kohima]], in the then [[Naga Hills District, British India|Naga Hills District]] to Dr. Harielungbe Haralu. She received her schooling in Kohima and Shillong. She graduated from the [[Scottish Church College]], [[Calcutta University]] in 1948.
