Poduru is a village and headquarters of Poduru mandal in West Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[1]

Etymology[edit | edit source]

In Telugu, "Podu" means Little forest, as it used to a forest before it was cleared for cultivation.

History[edit | edit source]

Rajahmundry district was formed in 1823 and in 1859 bifurcated into Godavari District and Krishna district. In 1925, Godavari district was split into East Godavari district and West Godavari district.[2][3]

The reorganisation of the districts in 2022 increased the number of districts in Andhra Pradesh from 13 to 26.[4]

As of 2011 Census of India, Poduru had a population of 9578. The total population constitute, 4862 males and 4717 females with a sex ratio of 970 females per 1000 males. 849 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, with sex ratio of 970 The average literacy rate stands at 77.83%.[5]
