He has also served as 20th Mayor of Chandigarh elected on January 2016. He is the third person from the Bharatiya Janata Party to become the Mayor of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, after Kamla Sharma in 1997 and Shanta Hit Abhilashi in 2000.
