Raja (Ranjan), a nobleman, is stripped of his birthright by an army commander who is an enemy of his deceased warrior father. When Chitralekha Devi (Rajasulochana) the princess of [[Malay Peninsula|Malaya]], arrives in India for a visit, the two fall in love. The jealous commander imprisons Raja, but Raja still manages to escape and sails to Malaya with Chitralekha on her ship. Raja Malaya Simha was simultaneously shot in Tamil as Raja Malaya Simhan. Udayakumar wrote the dialogues and A. Maruthakasi penned the lyrics.[2] The costumes were designed by V. N. Murthi.[3]

The soundtrack was composed by Viswanathan–Ramamoorthy. All the tunes for all the songs for both languages are the same.
