The club has its headquarters in Hyderabad, in the current state of Telangana and is affiliated to the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).[1] The club conducts many gymkhana and TSD rallies from 80s and is popular for hosting the "Charminar Challenge Rally" for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Starting with the two-wheeler rally in 1981, APMSC began the Charminar Challenge Rally for cars in 1984[2] which became a regular feature in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) new format which began in 1988 under the aegis of FMSCI. The four-wheeler rally was also called as the Deccan Rally and was sponsored by Castrol for over a decade. Hyderabad used to host the Deccan Rally as part of the INRC till 1999.[3]

The club used to host the rallies which in the initial years used to have a route Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The members of the club participated in events all over India. A couple of notable names who took part in the events all over the country were Kiran Mody and team and Pestonjee Viccajee and team. Viccajee later became the president of APMSC. During his time, Dinaz was the secretary.[4]

The club started conducting events in frequent intervals from 2008 onwards, and tied up with new partners and sponsors. National Karting events were also held at the tarmac provided by the GMR at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport parking lot. Drag racing was introduced in Andhra Pradesh by events named as "Deccan Quarter Mile Drag [DQMD]".[5][6]
