Ponniyin Selvan (transl. The son of the Ponni) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language historical drama web series. It is based on the five-part novel titled Ponniyin Selvan penned by Kalki Krishnamurthy.[1] It is co-produced by MX player and May 6 Entertainment with production by Soundarya Rajinikanth[2][3] and direction by Sharath Kumar Jothi. The story revolves around Arulmozhivarman, one of the kings of the Chola dynasty, who was later known as Raja Raja Chola.[4][5]

In 2019, MX Player announced the web series adaptation with a title design teaser.[6] production began in June 2019.[7] The original language of the web series will be in Tamil, in which the novel was originally written, but the information about dubbed languages will be updated soon. Later on 10th september 2021 producer Soundarya Rajinikanth announced the season 1 of the drama series 'Puthu Vellam' on her official instagram page.
