Osho Jain is an Indian indie singer-songwriter, composer, and music producer based in Mumbai, Maharashtra.[1] Known for his poetic Hindi and Urdu lyrics, he gained recognition in the Indian independent music scene with tracks such as "Khush To Hai Na", "Tu Aisa Kaise Hai", and "Dekha Hi Nahi".[2][3][4][5][6]
Early life[edit | edit source]
Jain was born in 1994 and raised in Indore,[7] Madhya Pradesh, India.[8][1] He was exposed to music at a young age, heavily influenced by the ghazals and Indian classical music his parents listened to.[9] He began learning music and singing around the age of 12.[5] He commenced his musical journey with indie-rock band ‘Aankh Micholi’.[10][11] During his high school years, he started writing songs, finding inspiration in Hindi and Urdu literature to integrate into his songwriting.[1][9]
Career[edit | edit source]
Jain began his professional musical journey as the lead singer and songwriter of the indie rock band Aankh Micholi.[1] He transitioned to a solo career in 2016, starting by sharing his acoustic covers and original music on his YouTube channel.[5]
As a solo artist, Jain achieved independent success following the release of singles like "Khush To Hai Na" in 2019.[6] He was acting as the sole member of The Osbho Projekt.[7] In September 2020, he released his debut extended play (EP), Wahaan, a five-track project exploring themes of love, loss, and remembrance.[12]
In October 2021, Jain released his debut full-length studio album, Saar.[6] The album, whose title translates to "gist" or "summary" in Hindi, features seven vocal tracks and two poetry pieces, and includes collaborations with artists like Sanchi.[13][14][6] Tracks such as "Kaun Apna", "Mazhab Hai", and "Pyaare" established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary independent music.[1]
He continued to build a strong discography with the release of his 2024 EP Uff, which featured the breakout track "Dekha Hi Nahi".[15] Jain has also incorporated socially conscious messages into his work; his 2023 release "Kya Karenge" under Indiea Records addressed topics of environmental degradation and consumerism.[16][17]
Beyond studio recordings, Jain has performed at prominent Indian music festivals, including the NH7 Weekender, MTV World Music Carnival, and SAUCE by SOCIAL.[18] He has also collaborated on musical campaigns with major global brands, including Domino's, Amazon, Instagram, and United Colors of Benetton.[5]
Artistry and influences[edit | edit source]
Jain's musical style blends elements of indie folk, pop, and acoustic music with introspective poetry.[6] He frequently cites the ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh as one of his primary influences, particularly admiring his minimalistic and impactful approach to composition. His songwriting focuses on themes of human emotion, vulnerability, and social observations including religious extremism[7], often relying on simple acoustic arrangements to highlight his lyricism.[18]
