| Muthuswamy first achieved prominence as a result of the play "Kalam Kalamaga", which has been described as the "first modern play in Tamil".<ref name="master"/><br/>He won the [[Sangeet Natak Akademi Award]] from the [[Government of India]] for year 1999.
