History
Eluru district was formed in 2by 022, with 20 mandals carved of old West Godavari district and 8 mandals of old Krishna district. It has a total of 28 mandals in 3 revenue divisions.[1][2]
Geography
Eluru district covers an area of 6413 sq km. It is located in a tropical region. It has three natural divisions: Delta, Upland and Agency areas. The Bay of Bengal is to the south.[1]

Administrative divisions
Eluru district has 3 revenue divisions and 28 mandals as noted below:[1][3]
Eluru revenue division consists of the following mandals: Eluru, Denduluru, Pedavegi, Pedapadu, Unguturu, Bhimadole, Nidamarru, Kaikalur, Mandavalli, Kalidindi and Mudinepalli.[3]
Nuzvid revenue division consists of the following mandals: Nuzvid, Agiripalli, Chatrai, Musunuru, Chintalapudi and Lingapalem.[3]
Jangareddygudem revenue division consists of the following mandals: Buttayagudem, Gopalapuram, Koyyalagudem, Kukkunoor, Jeelugu Milli, Jangareddigudem, Polavaram and Velerupadu.[3]
Demographics
As per the 2011 census, Eluru district had a population of 20,02,658. The female population of the district was 50.05%. The rural population of the district was 16,18,288 forming 80.70% of the population. The urban population was 19.30% of the population. Scheduled Castes formed 21.87% of the population and Scheduled Tribes formed 6.09% of the population.[1] Eleru district has 655 revenue villages, of which 624 villages are habited and 31 are uninhabited. It 550 gram panchayats.[1]
