Fourteen-year Sooraj has a fantastical way of looking at the world. Everyone is an animal in his world, a Chidiakhana, where he is yet to find his place. He has started at his new school next to a Mumbai [[Chawl]] where he lives with his mother, Bibha. His first introduction itself rubs the class-bully Babu the wrong way – for he is a Bihari among a largely Marathi gang . He is taunted for being fatherless. All this makes it impossible for him to shine in the game of football, his ultimate dream.  His mother Bibha is struggles with her dark past and a difficult present.  Working as a caretaker with a rich family in a posh tower, she is harassed by the building manager. She is worried about her son's academics and fearful of the family's place as outsiders in the chawl community.

Overcome by his circumstance, Sooraj finds a helping hand in Pratap Bhai, a muscleman for a regional political party. While the unlikely duo bond, Bibha sees red and wants Pratap to leave them alone. But Pratap has already extended his protective and affectionate wing to this bright, little boy – teaching him football, dating tricks as well as lessons in life. Sooraj sees a potential father figure, someone he has been searching for. Bibha feels her son moving away from her. We discover Pratap's boss is involved in the sale of the school playground, the same ground where he had captained his team to victory many years ago. Pratap is suddenly on the other side of the fence from where Sooraj stands.

As Sooraj fights for his dreams, Bibha learns to confront the demons of the past instead of running away from them. She realizes the importance of Sooraj's dream, for it is the dream that inspires reality. And with all this she discovers her affinity and affection for the mawali Pratap. In an exciting climax, Sooraj needs to prove his mettle on the football field against a far superior team, even as he fears that Pratap is dead. In his journey, the awkward, insecure boy forms unexpected friendships, resolves conflicts at school and finds his place under the sun.

Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rated the film 1.5 out of 5 stars, and wrote, "There’s a pleasing sincerity about Ritvik Sahore, and Rajeshwari Sachdev and Mahesh Narayanan are both capable of breathing life into a scene. But with so little lift from the writing, they all come off cliched."[2]
