Thomas Beach "Tom" Alter (22 June 1950 – 29 September 2017) [1] was an Indian actor American descent. He was a television actor, best known for his work in Bollywood,[2][3] and the theatre.[4]
Alter was born in Mussoorie, Uttar Pradesh, India (now in Uttarakhand).[5] He was the son of American Christian missionaries of English and Scottish ancestry.
In 2008, he was awarded Padma Shri by the Indian government.[6][7]
Tom Alter' son released a statement of his father's demise which said, "It is with sadness we announce the death of our beloved Tom Alter, actor, writer, director, Padma Shri, and most importantly our loving father!".[8] Alter died of skin cancer on 29 September 2017 at his home in Mumbai, India at the age of 67.[9]
