Thangching[1] (Old Manipuri: ꯊꯥꯡꯆꯤꯡ), also spelled as Thangjing (Meitei: ꯊꯥꯡꯖꯤꯡ), is a primordial deity in Meitei mythology and religion. He is the Guardian of the South West direction.[2] He is the presiding deity of Ancient Moirang, a province in Ancient Manipur,[3] where he rules at supreme on the banks of the Loktak lake.[4][5][6] Two of his greatest pantheons are the Thangching Temple and the Thangching Hill. Legend says that Thangjing made goddess Phouoibi to incarnate in a human birth in Keke Moirang to prosper the human civilization.[7]
