In Feb'2021, it objected and lodged a complaint against BBC for publishing picture of Muhammad. BBC Hindi regret the offence they have caused by publishing Mohammed’s image. In a letter written by Mukesh Sharma, the editor of BBC, to Maulana Saeed Noorie, Raza Academy’s General Secretary, he said that the BBC has already revised the video and removed the contents that hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.

The Academy has published several hundred books of various Islamic subjects written by scholars in Urdu, Arabic, Hindi and in English.[3] According to a report, It maintains a web portal from as early as 1998 that includes directories of associated institutions and ulema.[4] The Academy has published several hundred books of Ahle Sunnah scholars invarious languages. Kanzul Iman, translation of the Quran is being published by it in Urdu and in English. It has also published Fatawa-e-Razvia in 25 volumes. The books on life and works of Imam Ahmed Raza Al Qadri and biographies of other Sunni Sufi scholars were also published by the Academy.[5]

Relief and charity work[edit | edit source]

Raza Academy facilitated the burial of Muslim COVID-19 victims in Mumbai.[6] The organisation had distributed relief material during 2018 Kerala floods.[7]

It formed Sunni Relief Committee in association with All India Sunni Jamiat ul Ulema to help and distribute relief materials collected from various parts of West Bengal and Maharashtra among the riot victims in Assam.[8]

In 2006, Bhiwandi, two policemen were killed, after protests by Raza Academy.[9][10]

Raza Academy was accused of the 2012 Azad Maidan riots.[11] The court and government asked them to pay for 3 crore property damages.[12]

In 2016, Raza Academy had held protests calling for the ban of Indian Muslim preacher Zakir Naik after investigations alleged that perpetrators of the 2016 Gulshan attack were inspired by Naik.[13][14]

It had also held solidarity marches and demonstrations against Pakistan post 2019 Pulwama attack and 2019 Balakot airstrike.[15][16][17]

In 29 October 2020 Raza academy stamped poster of French President Emmanuel Macron on Mumbai roads because of French President Emmanuel Macron's remarks on Muslims.[18]

In February 2021, it objected and lodged a complaint against BBC for publishing picture of Muhammad. BBC Hindi regret the offence they have caused by publishing Mohammed’s image. In a letter written by Mukesh Sharma, the editor of BBC, to Maulana Saeed Noorie, Raza Academy’s General Secretary, he said that the BBC has already revised the video and removed the contents that hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims.

On 11 August 2012, Raza Academy held a protest against the riots in Assam and attacks on Muslims in Myanmar at Azad Maidan in Mumbai, with two other groups. It ended in wide scale violence, killing two people and injuring more than 50.[19][20][21]

The organisation had earlier protested programs of Taslima Nasrin and Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri in Mumbai.[22]

In 2015, Raza Academy issued a fatwa against acclaimed music composer A. R. Rahman and Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi for making a film on Muhammad.[23] In 2018, it called for the ban on the public dissemination of a viral song from Oru Adaar Love - Manikya Malaraya Poovi which allegedly insulted Mohammed and his wife.[24][25]

Post the enactment of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 which declared triple talaq as a criminal offense, the organisation deemed the bill to infringe on the religious rights of Muslims in India.[26]

Protest organised by the group against violence in Tripura in November 2021 turned violent in Amravati, Nanded, Malegaon. The situation was brought under control after the imposition of a curfew.[27]
