It came to our attention that some people are receiving the following spam email from a private email address. We do not claim to have a connection with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation in any way whatsoever nor we (volunteers) ask for money in exchange for creating a page or editing this portal. This is a free encyclopedia and we welcome you to create or edit pages and share your knowledge with the world.

Subject: Regarding an Article in 'Wikipedia India'

Hello,

A recent article was noticed at the site en.wikipedia.ind.in which is:

This mail is to intimate that the site en.wikipedia.ind.in is a privately owned website having no connection with Wikipedia or Wikimedia foundation.

The website en.wikipedia.ind.in is a scam site made with a similar appearance to actual Wikipedia and the unfortunate fact is that some fraudsters are scamming people by telling that it is a Indian version of Wikipedia, which is not the case.

The site is only <age of the site> days old whereas Wikipedia is a 20 years old organization.

A word of advise:

If you wish to have your page in Wikipedia for real, its better not to get trapped with such scammers and rather you can simply request your name at the suggestion at Wikipedia (You can visit here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requested_articles). If you are notable already a page will be created by some editor and if you aren't, when you become truly notable( which is evaluated by the number of qualitative references available about you ), Wikipedia editors will create a page about you, and that too without any cost.

This is a part of an initiative to stop people getting scammed by fraudsters in the name of "Creation of Wikipedia Page".
