Mujahideen
Mujahideen, or Mujahidin (Arabic: مُجَاهِدِين, romanized: mujāhidīn मुजाहिदीन), is the plural of mujahid (Arabic: مُجَاهِد, romanized: mujāhid मुजाहिद), an Arabic term that generally refers to individuals who partake in jihad, which is understood in Islamic law as a struggle for the sake of Allah, religion, or the Ummah (the Muslim community). The term gained prominence in English primarily in connection with the guerrilla-style militant factions led by Islamist fighters during the Soviet-Afghan War, known as the Afghan mujahideen. Nowadays, it has come to encompass various jihadist groups across different countries.
