Thalekunnil Basheer is one of the senior politicians in the state of Kerala, India. He was a member of Kerala Legislative Assembly. He was member of parliament (both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha). He was also an office bearer of the Kerala Pradesh congress committee. He is the author of many books. His writings include 'Velicham Kooduthal Velicham' (Collection of Articles), 'Rajeev Gandhi : Surya Thejassinte Ormakku', 'Mandelayude Nattil; Gandhijiyudeyum' (Travelogue). K Damodaran muthal Berlin Kunjananthan Nair vare'. He served as president DCC trivandrum, KPCC general secretary, KPCC vice -president, KPCC president (acting) chairman Thiruvananthapuram development authority ( TRIDA) and Director of malayalam mission under department of culture, government of kerala .

He is a columnist with several newspapers. The evergreen Malayalam actor (late)Mr.Prem Nazir. was his Brother in law, since he married Prem Nazir's younger sister Suhra. Basheer and Suhra have two children together. Suhra died in 2013 aged 54 after a long battle with diabetes.
