Salwan is a village of high historical interest in Karnal District, and one of the biggest village in Karnal, Haryana, India. It contains a tirtha identified as having national importance. The village Is belongs to Zamindar brahmin and Rajput's. The Zamidars of this village is very well fulfilled in their fields. Some of the gangsters are from this village. The youth of this village is very powerful and they have their own group "Salwan Group" which is led by [[List of Rajput and brahmin dynasties and states|Brahmins and rajput]. This village is one of the famous village of Haryana. The famous personality of this village Dr. Devinder Singh, Late Dr. Sukhbeer Singh (Deputy Director), Dr. Sudhir Rana (international Professor), Advocate Yashpal Rana (Politician) and many other who represented state and country at various levels such as defense, medical, education amongst others. Brahmin and rajput are most powerfel in karnal and whole india up is dominated by brahmin and rajput same with this district.

This village is famous for their historic value like Tirtha and Mata Mansa Devi Mandir.

The village was the subject of much media attention in 2007, when the beating death of a [Rajput] man was followed by a wave of violence directed toward local Dalits. About 150 lower-caste families fled the village.
