Ranbir Kapoor (pronounced [rəˈɳbiːr kəˈpuːr]; born 28 September 1982) is an Indian movie actor. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Hindi cinema. He has been ranked in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2012.[1][2] Kapoor has won many awards which includes six Filmfare Awards.[3]

He is the son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and grandson of actor-director Raj Kapoor. Kapoor did moviemaking and method acting at the School of Visual Arts and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute respectively.[4][5] He then worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant director on the 2005 movie Black. He made his acting debut in Bhansali's tragic romance Saawariya (2007). The movie was a critical and commercial failure.[6] Kapoor became famous in 2009 with his performances in the coming-of-age movie Wake Up Sid, the romantic comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and the drama Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. His most watched movie during this time was the political drama Raajneeti (2010).

He played the role of a troubled musician in the romantic drama Rockstar (2011) and a cheerful deaf-and-mute man in the comedy-drama Barfi! (2012). He won two consecutive Best Actor awards at Filmfare for these roles.[3] He acted with Deepika Padukone in the romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013). The movie established him as a leading Bollywood actor. He then acted in a series of movies that did not perform well commercially except for the romance Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Kapoor played Sanjay Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani's biopic Sanju in 2018.[7] The movie was one of the highest-earning Indian movies of all time. He won another Filmfare Award for Best Actor for this role.[3]

Apart from acting in movies, Kapoor supports charities and organisations.[8] He is also the co-owner of the Indian Super League football team Mumbai City FC.[9][10]
