Lavanya Tripathi (born 15 December 1990) is an Indian actress, model and dancer who predominantly works in Telugu films along with few Tamil films. She won Miss Uttarakhand title in 2006 and started working as a model. Tripathi made her acting debut with the television show Pyaar Ka Bandhan and made her film debut with Andala Rakshasi (2012) for which she won CineMAA Awards Best Female Debut.

Lavanya has since then appeared in successful Telugu films including Doosukeltha (2013), Bhale Bhale Magadivoy (2015), Soggade Chinni Nayana (2016), Srirastu Subhamastu (2016), Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi (2017) and Arjun Suravaram (2019).[1]

Tripathi has also acted in Tamil films such as Bramman (2014) and Maayavan (2017). In 2021, she appeared in the music video Pottum Pogattume.[2]

Early life[edit]

Lavanya Tripathi was born 15 December 1990,[3][4] in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh,[5] and grew up in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.[6]Template:Verification-inline Her father is a lawyer practicing in High Court and Civil Court and her mother is a retired teacher. She has two elder siblings, one brother and sister.[7] After completing her schooling from Marshall School, Dehradun, she moved to Mumbai, where she graduated in economics from Rishi Dayaram National College.[7][8]

She stated that she "always wanted to be in showbiz" but her father wanted her to complete her education first. She then started modelling, appearing in commercials, while also being part of television shows.[6] She won the title of Miss Uttarakhand in 2006 when still in school.[9]

Her background in classical dancing Bharatnatyam came in handy for her role in film Bale Bale Magadivoy.[10]

Career[edit]

Television career (2008-2010)[edit]

Tripathi started her acting career with Indian television, she first appeared in Ssshhhh...Koi Hai. She next appeared as a contestant on Get Gorgeous (Season 5) and stood at 9th place. Her next role was of Mishti Das/Araina Rai, as parallel lead in Sony TV show Pyaar Ka Bandhan. Her last appearance on television was in CID where she played Sakshi, in the episode, Maut Ka Aashirvad.

Film career[edit]

Debut and breakthrough (2012-2015)[edit]

Tripathi made her feature film debut with the 2012 Telugu film Andala Rakshasi,[11] after a friend suggested her to attend the audition for the role. She earned critical acclaim for her performance as Midhuna and won the Best Debutante Award at CineMAA Awards. The following year, she starred in Doosukeltha, with Vishnu Manchu which became box office hit.[12]

In 2014, she made her debut in Tamil cinema with Bramman in which she played an aspiring journalist, Gayathri.[13] In the same year she played the cameo role of Radha Mohan's friend in Manam, also appeared alongside Naga Chaitanya in the film's song 'Kanulanu Thaake'.[14]

Lavanya achieved critical acclaim for her character of Nandana, a Kuchipudi dance teacher in Bhale Bhale Magadivoy with Nani.[15] She won Zee Telugu Apsara Awards, Rising Star of the Year for her performance.[16]

Success and acclaim (2016-2019)[edit]

Tripathi had a successful 2016 with three releases. She first appeared in Soggade Chinni Nayana as Seeta opposite Nagarjun. It received positive reviews from critics and was commercially successful, Lavanya was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu.[17] Her next film was Lacchimdeviki O Lekkundi alongside Naveen Chandra, where she was seen as Devi. It received mixed reviews from the critics, but was a commercial success.[18] Her final release of the year came with Srirastu Subhamastu, where she appeared as Ananya "Anu" opposite Allu Sirish. It received mostly positive reviews.[19]

In the year 2017 she had five releases. She appeared in Mister[20] as Chandramukhi alongside Varun Tej. It had mixed to negative reviews from critics. Her next release was Radha, appearing with Sharwanand, she played Radha. It received mixed reviews.[21] Her next release was the average grosser Yuddham Sharanam, where she was seen as Anjali, a medical intern opposite Naga Chaitanya.[22]

Tripathi next played Meghana "Maggie", a carefree girl and a wedding planner in Vunnadhi Okate Zindagi opposite Ram Pothineni.[23][24] She made her Tamil film comeback after 3 years with her final release of the year, Maayavan, where she played, Aadhirai, a psychiatrist. The film received positive reviews from critics but was a box-office average.[25]

In 2018, she played Shreya in Inttelligent opposite Sai Dharam Tej. Following negative critical reception, the film became a commercial failure.[26] She was next seen as Parvathi, a school teacher in Antariksham 9000 KMPH. It received mixed to positive reviews.[27] She also received Zee Telugu Apsara Awards, Popular Face of the Year in 2018.[citation needed]

Tripathi had only one release in 2019, Arjun Suravaram, where she portrayed Kavya, an aspiring journalist.[28]

Recent work and further career (2020-present)[edit]

Lavanya had two releases in 2021. The first release was A1 Express opposite Sundeep Kishan, she played Lavanya Rao, a hockey player.[29] She next appeared alongside Kartikeya Gummakonda in Chaavu Kaburu Challaga. She was seen as Mallika, a widow.[30]

Tripathi will next appeared in Happy Birthday. It will mark her first film as a solo lead.[31][32] She will make her web debut with ZEE5 series Puli Meka alongside Aadi.[33]

Other work[edit]

Lavanya acted in an advertisement along with the Traffic Police Department of Telangana for which she did not take any remuneration.[34] She has appeared in the ads of well known brands such as Fair & Lovely and Binani Cement.[35]
