Ohh My Dog is a 2026 Indian Hindi-language children's comedy drama and family thriller film written, directed and co-produced by Amit Rai.[1] Produced by Amit Rai, Rajesh Bhardwaj and Sana Warsi under the banners of Babulal Biscope and Thinking Hats Entertainment Solutions, the film stars Maahi Rai in his acting debut alongside Pankaj Tripathi, Pawan Malhotra, Rajesh Kumar and Geeta Agarwal Sharma, with canine performers Bruno and Oscar in prominent roles. The film features more than 250 dogs and explores themes of loyalty, compassion and the bond between humans and animals.[1][2]
The film was theatrically released on 7 August 2026.[3]
Plot[edit | edit source]
The story opens with the burial of Senapati, a decorated police dog, whose separation from her puppies is recalled with regret. Her two sons, Momo and Oscar, grow up in different circumstances. In Dibrugarh, Assam, Momo is adopted by young Apu and his family. In Bihar, Oscar lives with Prince, a construction labourer who shares a close bond with the dog despite limited means.
When Momo goes missing, Apu and his mother report the disappearance to the local police, who initially show limited interest. Convinced that animal traffickers are involved, the tech-savvy Apu begins his own investigation with the support of his teacher. Around the same time, Prince vanishes from a construction site in Bihar. Oscar sets out to find him, drawing the attention of a local teacher who educates migrant workers’ children and a reluctant police officer.
The parallel searches expose networks involved in dog trafficking for meat and the exploitation of vulnerable labourers, including organ-related crimes. As Apu and Oscar pursue leads across state lines, they confront indifference and corruption among some officials while receiving help from others. The journeys highlight the resilience of the dogs and the determination of those who care for them, culminating in efforts to confront the perpetrators and reunite the companions.[4][5][6]

Ohh My Dog was originally scheduled for theatrical release on 31 July 2026. The release was postponed to 7 August 2026 owing to limited screen availability caused by the simultaneous run of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.[7] The film received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification after modifications. Paid previews were held on 6 August 2026.[8]
Pankaj Tripathi appeared in the film without accepting a fee, stating that he wished to support the project and its subject because of his association with the director and belief in the story.[9]

Ohh My Dog received mixed to positive reviews, with particular praise for the performances of the canine actors and the film’s emotional core, while several critics noted its length and occasional reliance on stereotypes.
Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rated the film 2.5 out of 5 stars and observed that it remains watchable when focused on the dogs, describing them as non-pedigreed animals with resilience, though the narrative becomes stretched when explanatory.[3] Sana Farzeen of India Today highlighted Oscar as a scene-stealing presence who carries much of the film’s emotion and entertainment across its runtime, while noting that the film is occasionally stereotypical and overlong.[4] Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India awarded 3 out of 5 stars, calling it an engaging investigative drama powered by a dog’s loyalty that nevertheless overstays its welcome at two-and-a-half hours.[6] Anuj Kumar of The Hindu described the film as an absorbing thriller with a moral spine that positions the bond between humans and animals as one of both intelligence and heart, praising the work of Maahi Rai and Bruno.[5]
