Michael J. Schroeder is an American historian whose research focuses on Latin American and U.S. history, particularly Nicaragua. He is professor emeritus of history at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania. Schroeder has published extensively on social geography, rebellion, and political violence in Nicaragua, and co-authored major global history textbooks used internationally.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Schroeder earned bachelor’s degrees in History and Economics from the University of Minnesota, and later received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Michigan in 1993.[2]

Academic career[edit]

After teaching at the University of Michigan–Flint and Eastern Michigan University, Schroeder joined the faculty of Lebanon Valley College, where he taught Latin American, U.S., and world history. He also developed a digital archive devoted to the Sandino Rebellion of 1927–1934 in Nicaragua.[3]

Publications and research[edit]

Schroeder’s work combines field research in Central America with digital humanities. His 2018 book, Los malditos pájaros de hierro: La guerra aérea en Nicaragua durante la rebelión de Sandino, 1927–1932, explores the role of aerial warfare in the Sandino rebellion.[4]
