Lakes of Rajasthan


Many natural lakes exist in Rajasthan since ancient times. In the medieval and modern times, the kings of the princely states also built many lakes. Rajasthan There are sweet and brackish water lakes in which most of the lakes are of fresh water which are as follows- 1:Jaisamand Lake 2:Rajsamand Lake 3:Lake Pichola 4:Fatehsagar Lake 5:Udaysagar Lake 6:Nakki Lake 7:Annasagar Lake 8:Pushkar Lake 9:Balsamand Lake 10:Kolayat Lake 11:Silisedh Lake

Jaisamand LakeEdit

Jaisamand Lake which is also known as Dhebar Lake. It is a huge reservoir located in the north-west India to the south-central Rajasthan of the state Aravalli Range to the southeast. It is one of the major tourist places in Rajasthan. This lake has the distinction of being the largest artificial lake of Asia. It is situated on the Udaipur-Salumbar road towards south-east at a distance of 51 km from Udaipur district headquarter. Due to the beauty of its natural surroundings and the architectural beauty of the dam, this lake has remained an important tourist attraction over the years. The best time to visit here is during the monsoon season. The cane houses on the road beside the lake offer a beautiful view. This is the most beautiful view of the lake. It was built by Maharaj Jai Singh of Alwar in 1910 for picnic. He also built an island in the middle of this lake.

There are 7 big islands inside this lake, in which Baba Ka Bhaga is the largest and Pyaari is the smallest.

Rajsamand LakeEdit

This lake is located in the Rajsamand district, about 60 km north of Udaipur. It is the second largest artificial lake in India. This lake is spread over an area of 88 sq km. Maharana Raj Singh built this lake in the 17th century by constructing a dam on the Gomti River. On its embankment there is a monument of marble on which Maharana Raj Singh wrote the famous inscription Raj Prashasti which was engraved by Ranchod Bhatt and the palace built on the mountain The name of Rajmandir is.

Lake PicholaEdit

"Pichhola Lake" near the village of Picholi in the west of Udaipur This lake was built by one of the Banjaras in the period of Rana Lakha (end of 14th century). . After this Maharana Udai Singh II had expanded the lake after the discovery of this city. There are two islands in the lake and there are palaces on both. One is Jag Niwas, which has now become the "Lake Palace Hotel" and the other is Jag Mandir, Udaipur.

Ana Sagar LakeEdit

."Ana Sagar Lake" which is also known as "Ana Sagar Lake". It is an artificial lake located in India in Rajasthan Ajmer division of the state. This lake was built by Anaji Chauhan, the grandfather of Prithviraj Chauhan in the middle of the twelfth century (1135-1150 AD). The name of this lake "Ana Sagar" or "Ana Sagar" is considered popular due to being built by Anaji.

Silishedh LakeEdit

This lake is located in the Alwar district of the state. Here in the year 1845 Alwar[1] Maharaja Vinay Singh built a royal palace and lodge for his wife, which is currently running as "Lake Palace Hotel" and this hotel is now being run by Rajasthan Tourism Department.

Nakki LakeEdit

Nakki Lake is located near the temple of Raghunathji in the Mount Abu Sirohi district of the state. It is the highest lake in Rajasthan.[2] It is said that a Hindu god made this lake by digging it with his nails. That is why it is known as Nakki (nail or nail). The view of the surrounding hills from the lake is very beautiful. Boating can also be enjoyed in this lake. The beauty of the setting sun can be seen from the sunset point located to the south-west of Nakki Lake. The views of the lush green plains spread far from here bring peace to the eyes. Hundreds of tourists come here to see the changing colors of the sky at sunset. This lake, which gives natural pleasure of natural beauty, is surrounded by mountain ranges all around. The hill islands here are very attractive. Here on Karthik Purnima people take advantage of religion by bathing. An island in the lake has been made attractive by installing a 70 horse power water fountain in different colors whose streams go up to a height of 80 feet. There is also a boating facility in the lake.[3]

Fatehsagar LakeEdit

This lake is a lake located in Udaipur district.[4] Whose reconstruction Maharana Fateh Singh[5] Had it done. This lake is connected to Pichola Lake. There is an island on the Fatehsagar lake on which Nehru Park has been developed. Also a solar observatory has been established in the lake. Debali village was here in ancient times in place of Fatehsagar lake, that is why it is also called Debali Talab. It is also called Connot Dam.

Pushkar LakeEdit

"Pushkar Lake" or "Pushkar Sarovar" is a sacred Hindu lake located in the Pushkar town of Ajmer district of the state. Thus according to Hindus it is a pilgrimage. From the mythological point of view this lake was built by Lord Brahma ji, due to this a temple of Brahma ji has also been built near the lake.[6][7][8] The "Pushkar Lake" fills Karthik Purnima in the month (October–November) Pushkar Fair where thousands of pilgrims come and take bath. It is believed that by taking a bath here, all the diseases of skin are removed and the skin becomes clean and clean.

Lake Foy SagarEdit

"Foysagar Lake" Rajasthan A lake situated in the Ajmer district [9] Which is produced English Engineer under the direction of Foy [10]flood happened under the relief project. Its water comes in Ana Sagar Lake.

Rangsagar LakeEdit

"Rang Sagar Lake" which is a small lake in the Udaipur district of the state. This lake is joined by Swaroop Sagar Lake and Pichola Lake. It is a fresh water lake which Udaipur quenches the thirst of the people of the city while adding to the glory of the city. Rang Sagar Lake was built by Maharaja Amar Singh Barwa in 1668.[11] It was done in AD. For this reason this lake is also called "Amarkunt". This lake is about 250 meters wide and 1 kilometer long.[12]

Balsamand LakeEdit

Jodhpur This lake was built in the year 1159 by the Parihar ruler Bal Ram. Presently this lake also provides drinking water and also enhances the natural beauty of Jodhpur.

Swaroop Sagar LakeEdit

"Swaroop Sagar Lake" (Swaroop Sagar Lake) is a small lake located in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan of India. This lake is joined by Lake Pichola and Rangsagar Lake.

Gajner LakeEdit

"This lake" which is the state's[13]Bikaner is located at a distance of 32 km from the district.[14] It is about 0.4 km long and 183 or 274 meters wide.

Kolayat LakeEdit

The Kolayat Lake which is situated in the Bikaner of the State.There is a lake located in the district. Taking a bath in this lake is considered sacred from a religious point of view, so people keep coming and going here. There are many ghats for bathing, around which there are trees of Peepal. It is called a beautiful desert of dry desert. Kapil Muni's ashram was here in ancient times, therefore every year Karthik Purnima is celebrated by Kapil Muni.[15] The fair fills

Dugari LakeEdit

Spread over an area of about 3 sq km, this lake is famous by the name of Kanak Sagar. It is said that this lake was constructed in 1580 AD at a cost of 2 lakhs. This lake is situated near Dugari village. It can also be called the largest water reservoir of Bundi district.

Talwara LakeEdit

"Talwara Lake", also known as Talwara Lake, is a small lake that flows into a basin in the course of Ghaggar-Hakra River in Hanumangarh District of the state. It gets filled up during monsoon rains.[16] In 1398-99 AD, when Timur came from Central Asia and attacked India, after capturing the Bhatner fort of Hanumangarh, he rested here for some time.[16] Hanumangarh district is a very dry area and it is said that this seasonal lake is the only lake in this district.[17] In the course of Ghaggar river it falls in front of Otu Veer (Dam) of Sirsa District of Haryana.

Buddha Johad LakeEdit

Near Dabla there is a lake called Buddha Johad in which the water of the Ganges canal collects. This lake is not useful for irrigation as the amount of water here is limited.

Kadila and Mansarovar LakesEdit

It is situated in artificial lakes in Jhalawar district. These lakes have been formed in the Mukundara mountain range near Asnawa. Their water is mainly used for irrigation. Mansarovar Lake is situated near Ratedi village in Jhalawar district.

Pithampuri LakeEdit

The police station of Neem in the Sikar district of "Pithampuri Lake".There is a lake located in the tehsil which is not important for irrigation purpose. It is a small trough on the ground where rain water gets stored, which is filled for a few months and then dries up.

Ghadsisar LakeEdit

This lake is situated in Jaisalmer city. Jaisalmer has two main entrances. Ghadsisar Darwaza in the east and Amarsar Darwaza in the west. This lake is situated at some distance to the south-east of Ghadsisar Darwaza, it was built by Rawat Ghadsingh or Gharsi, that is why this lake is called Ghadsisar Lake. The lake collects rainwater which is mainly used as drinking water. Many tombs and temples are situated near the lake.

Bisalsar LakeEdit

Ajmer This lake was built between 1152 AD to 1162 AD by the Chauhan ruler Bisaldev of Ajmer. Initially, Raj Prasad was made on the two islands located in this lake. The Mughal emperor Jahangir built a palace on the banks of this lake, on the site of which the present church is situated.

Lake BadiEdit

The "Lake Badi" is a lake located in India in the Udaipur district of the Rajasthan state. It is a fresh water lake. This lake was built by Maharana Raj Singh at a distance of about 12 km (1652-1680) from Badi village. Earlier it was named Jian Sagar, which was later changed by his mother to Badi Lake. This lake covers about 155 km, while it is about 180 meters long and 18 meters wide, it also has three umbrellas. During the 1973 famine, water was supplied to the people of Udaipur through this lake.[18] There are many buses available directly from Udaipur to reach this lake.

Salt water lakesEdit

The salt water lakes found in the desert region of Rajasthan are the remains of the ancient Tethys Sea.

Sambhar LakeEdit

This lake is situated near the Jaipur city of the state, it is a salt water (brackish water) lake. This lake is situated at an altitude of 12,000 feet above sea level. When it is full, its area is about 90 square miles. In this three rivers come and fall. salt is produced on a large scale from this lake. It is estimated that Aravalli ranges silt filled in the troughs of Nice and Nice is the source of salt. The soluble sodium compound located in the silt enters the rain water and reaches the lake through the rivers and after evaporation of the water remains in the lake as salt.

Pachpadra LakeEdit

"Pachpadra Lake" is a salt water lake of Rajasthan located in Pachpadra village of Balotra tehsil of Barmer district of the state. salt is produced from this lake. In this lake, people of Kharwal caste make salt rhinestone by using "morli bush".[19]
