It is one of the twenty-two scheduled languages of the Republic of India, with official status in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in southeastern India, along with the Yanam district of the union territory of Puducherry. There is a pervasive influence of Sanskrit within Telugu lexicon, yet the two are not linguistically related. The Telugu script is derived from that of the 6th-century Calukya Dynasty and is related to the script of the Kannada language.
