English: Tiruneelakandar Temple – Pananjadi
This temple is known as Tiruneelakandar Temple. It is otherwise called Mottaiyandavar Temple. It shows ample evidence for early Pandya architecture (C.E 9th – 10th century). This temple is constructed with stone from the base to Prasthara portion. The super structure is constructed with brick and stucco. The two sculptural friezes found between Kapothaga have elephant and swan carvings. Stone sculptures of Dakshinamurthy, Yoga Narasimha and Brahma were installed once on the Giriva portion in their respective directions. A stone Nandhi is seen in front of the temple. |
