Summary

Embossed cover from the original 1895 Macmillan edition of w:The Second Jungle Book. Illustrations based on sketches by John Lockwood Kipling (1837-1911) (father of Rudyard Kipling). Scanned and uploaded on en.wiki by en:User:Lee M.

The front cover illustration depicts the White w:Cobra (guardian of an ancient, forgotten treasure vault) twirled around the w:ankus (w:elephant hook) from w:The King's Ankus. The spine illustration depicts Kaa the w:python wrestling with the nude teenage w:Mowgli.
