Sculpture de la façade du temple représentant un joueur de pungi (punga ou murli) une sorte de clarinette à deux tuyaux dont un des deux sert de bourdon

La mystique Karni Mata est considérée par les dévots comme une incarnation de Durga. Elle vécut au XVème siècle.

Le temple qui lui est consacré est situé à Deshnoke (village à 33 km de Bikaner). Il est peuplé de rats sacrés qui sont en liberté et circulent entre les jambes des visiteurs. Les bâtiments du temple datent du XVIIème siècle (époque de Ganga Singh). La façade est en marbre blanc finement sculpté.

Les rats seraient la réincarnation des membres de la caste des Charan, à laquelle appartenait Karni Mata.
