Summary
DescriptionSaumyakeshava temple (rear view of stellate shrine) at Nagamangala.JPG
English: This photograph was taken by me at the Saumyakeshava temple in Nagamangala, Mandya district, Karnataka state, India. The stellate shrine and closed mantapa (hall) are a 12th century A.D. construction and is attributed to the Hoysala Empire. The outer gopura (tower on gate) seen here is a later Vijayanagara Empire (14th-16th century) addition. The austere nature of the shrine and mantapa outer wall, lacking in relief and ornamental work is considered unusual for Hoysala architecture.
