The Tirthankara has seven-headed cobra hood (naga canopy), which represents the protection provided by the serpent deity Dharanendra and his consort Padmavati during a deep meditation. Above the cobra hood, there is a three-tiered chattra (parasol), At the base there are shasana-devatas (tutelary deities), Padmavati and Dharanendra. The Vidisha District Museum houses an extensive collection of such 9th to 10th-century sculptures, primarily excavated from nearby historic sites like Besnagar and Gyaraspur.
